Seventh Grade
Hello, Everyone!
After-school tutoring is offered in the 7th grade on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30. Students who stay for tutoring will need to arrange for their own transportation home at 4:30. Students with failing or missing grades may be asked by teachers to stay for after-school tutoring. However, students do not need a teacher recommendation in order to attend.
Boggs Y-Club: The Y-Club is sponsoring a “Finding The Beauty Within” girls seminar/sleepover for all Bardstown Middle School girls only- to be held on Friday, February 5th in the BMS Gym from 8p.m. to 8a.m. Topics to be covered are self esteem, self respect, self confidence, self image, responsibility, and making good choices/decisions. All topics will be sensitive to age and developmentally appropriateness. We will also have some fun games and activities, dancing and movies, as well as concessions. The cost to attend will be $3 at the door and any extra $$ needed for food and drinks from the concessions. I am in desperate need of chaperones (female) to stay over and help through the night. Male volunteers could help with concessions and chaperone until bed time. Considering all of the peer pressures and issues that these young women are going to face in their upcoming years (though some face them already), I think that it is our responsibility to equip them with better decision making skills and self respect which in turn will help them make smarter, healthier choices. Please come out and help support our cause, and help us help you build a stronger, happier, healthier and more informed daughter. Paula Boggs – Y-Club sponsor
Teacher announcements:
Guthrie social studies: We’ve started chapter 12, Middle Ages China. We won’t have a test over this material until next Thursday or Friday (2/11 or 2/12).
Guthrie Math: We are working our way through chapter 6. Ask your child to attend tutoring after school if they are having trouble with fractions.
Guthrie Academic Plus I currently have Ms. Case’s group for Geometry. We will work our way through chapter 10. This week, I expect to complete 3 or 4 lessons. The grades for this class will be recorded in Ms. Case’s Term 4 academic plus class in her grade book.
Guthrie’s Grade book: Please check your child’s grades online. If they have grades marked “incomplete” in my classes, they are not doing their math homework. Math homework gets automatic 100% scores for being completely done according to the directions even if some answers are wrong. In social studies, if a student has low scores, they can do unlimited extra credit projects, which I record in the grade book in the Test section.

Students have completed the lab report last Friday. We are now preparing the do the class presentations. The presentations will be scattered over several weeks so you can look in their agenda books to see when they have been scheduled to present their experiment to the class. We will also have a take home test on Tuesday and an in-class test on Friday of this week.
Ms. Hope-Academic +
Students will need to bring their math book to class everyday so that we can study the geometry unit in their math book. We will study angles and geometry shapes and how to measure their area. Please make sure they have plenty of paper and pencils. Thanks.
Ms. Hope-Reading
Students are still reading out of their AR books at home so they can have 3 books read by the end of the 9 weeks. During class they can read any book from the library to do their gold standard log. We will be preparing for the CATS test for the next several weeks.
Ms. Hope-Social Studies
Students are now studying the Roman Empire for the next couple of weeks. They will have homework this week so please check to be sure they have finished their homework at home.

Mrs. Green’s Classes:
Math…
We are working our way through chapter 5! Check with your child about homework…anything not completed in class is homework. We have completed sections 5-5 and 5-6. We had a quiz today over those sections. We will be finishing sections 5-7 and 5-8 this week. Quiz over sections 5-7 and 5-8 will be on Friday. Chapter 5 test is scheduled for next Tuesday if all goes as planned.
Academic Plus…
We are still focusing on Geometry. There was a quiz over angle relationships and parallel lines today. We will be working with right triangles and the Pythagorean theorem, square roots, and methods of identifying congruent triangles.
Reading…
This is the last week we will be using most of the class period to read silently, check out at the library, and take A.R. tests. Midterms are approaching FAST and your child must have at least one test for midterm and 3 tests by the end of the grading period. That is really one book a month. Remember to be signing your child’s agenda for reading 15 minutes per evening! We will also be reading some good short stories in class to show as models of what a short story should look like.
Writing…
This week we are creating a short story. We are putting to action our knowledge of character development and plot sequence. Each student will write and type a minimum 6 paragraph story. This will take us at least this week and part of next.
___________
Mrs. Jury:
Reading and Writing- We are currently working on our persuasive unit. Students have learned about Fact and Opinion, Persuasive Techniques/Propaganda and how to back up their opinions with valid reasons. Students are currently working on writing a persuasive letter. They have chosen a topic and filled out their prewriting. Tomorrow, students will begin writing their rough draft. The test for this unit will be the beginning of next week. First and third periods will take the test as a group. They will be required to make ice cream and then design an ad/persuasive campaign to persuade others in the class to “buy” their ice cream. Seventh period will take their test individually and it will be a combination of multiple choice, matching, short answer and open response questions.
Please remind your child to continue reading Accelerated Reader books and taking tests!
Reading Plus- We are currently working on vocabulary that students will encounter throughout this class and on the CATS test. Students are making an ABC Vocabulary book with these terms.

This is the last week we will be using the entire period to read silently, check out at the library, and take A.R. tests. Remember to be signing your child’s agenda for reading 15 minutes per evening!
Social Studies
We are beginning Chapter 10 this week, which is the rise of Christianity. We will be filling in our workbook study guide while we read the text out loud in class. We also will be watching some short films and taking quizzes over the material learned.
Academic Plus
We are looking at several open response questions this week and answering them as well as discussing them. This practice with guidance will help your child be more successful when it is time to do this on his/her own.
